This section is the reason the project is one repository rather than three.

The interesting engineering of the last two decades has happened at the seams:

• HBM — DRAM bending toward compute. Memory moves onto the package because the conventional channel can no longer feed the processor beside it.
• CXL — a cache-coherent protocol on PCIe that lets memory be attached, pooled and shared outside the DDR channel. The boundary between attached memory and fast storage becomes a matter of protocol rather than physics.
• NVMe and computational storage — storage bending toward memory, first by discarding a protocol built for a mechanical actuator, then by moving computation to the data.
• Processing-in-memory — all three collapsing into one another.

Filed under any single domain, each of these would look like a footnote to that domain. Filed here, on a shared axis, they are visibly the same story.

• HBM — the project’s first content vertical
